Naing, originally from Burma, moved to Thailand six years ago with hopes for a better life. He found a job and things were going well until two months ago, when he had to quit his construction job because of severe pain and numbness on his left side. After borrowing money to pay for doctor visits, Naing discovered he has a cancerous mass on his left kidney. While he was working, Naing was able to occasionally send money home to his father back in Burma, but with this new medical condition, he now relies on his brother and sister to support him. His health is affecting the entire family, but none of them have the financial resources to pay for his treatment. This quiet and kind man would like nothing more than to regain his health and be able to support his father again. Let's raise $1,500 for Naing's kidney removal, which doctors believe will eradicate his cancer, so he can have a chance at a healthy life.

Samuel is a resilient 33-year-old man who remains in good spirits and has a generous heart despite his medical condition. As a newborn he had hydrocephalus, a potentially life-threatening condition of excess fluid in the brain, but survived and grew up to do fairly well. A few months ago, Samuel started to experience severe headaches and seizures. He was diagnosed with a mucocele (a mucus-containing cystic lesion) in his brain. If left untreated, Samuel will continue to have severe symptoms which can lead to premature death. Samuel currently lives with his mother in a small village. She has been the rock of their family, supporting him and his five siblings single-handedly after the death of their father years ago. The income she makes from her small vegetable farm combined with Samuel’s wages from working as a casual laborer are still not enough to cover the medical care he needs. The craniotomy needed to remove the mucocele from Samuel’s brain costs $1,500. The doctors expect this will relieve his symptoms and help him live a long and healthy life. “I would love to open a kiosk when I get better. Then I could help my mother,” says Samuel. Kari is a father and artisan from Nepal who has a painful and swollen inguinal hernia. Kari doesn't own his own land, so he supports his wife and children by making crafts from bamboo. His caretakers at our medical partner, Nyaya Health, say "it's really difficult for him to afford treatment on his own." Kari was first diagnosed with this condition four years ago, but until now he's had no hope of being able to afford a referral to a higher center for treatment. With our support, Kari can have a $1390 surgery to repair his hernia, relieve his pain, and prevent potentially fatal complications. The cost of treatment includes travel to Nepal's capital, more than a day away, accompanied by staff from Nyaya Health.

Leu is an upbeat mother of three living in Cambodia. Leu is happiest when she can spend time caring for her home and her children, but recently she has been in too much pain to do any of her usual activities. A few months ago, Leu fell down a flight of stairs while working around the house and badly injured her hip. Since then, the pain has worsened and limited her ability to walk even short distances. Leu has been diagnosed with avascular necrosis, a condition resulting from her fall which interrupts blood supply to her hip and could lead to bone tissue death. Leu needs a total hip replacement but cannot afford the cost of surgery. For $500, we can fund Leu's surgery to restore her mobility and eliminate her hip pain.
