Thorng is a 20-year-old construction worker with four brothers and two sisters. He likes to listen to music on the radio and watch TV. In July, Thorng fell off his motorbike and hit his neck, paralyzing his left arm. He was diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury, meaning that the nerves connecting his spine to his arm were damaged. Thorng was in pain, and he could not raise his left arm. After learning about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), Thorng traveled for five hours with his mother to reach CSC for treatment. On November 1, surgeons performed a nerve transfer surgery in his left arm. After recovery, he should be able to use his arm easily. Now, he needs help to fund this $450 procedure.

"I wish I could get help and be well again!” shares Tumwesigye, a 65-year-old woman from Uganda. Tumwesigye was diagnosed with uterine prolapse, a condition that caused her uterus to drop out of her vagina. “It causes her back pain and she feels uncomfortable. If not treated, Tumwesigye may develop severe infection which could result in death,” explains our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “When Tumwesigye delivered her first child, she felt her lower abdomen was not stable; it was as if it was suspending. She didn’t get the same feeling after delivering the children that followed. However, after delivering her last child about 20 years ago her lower abdomen felt strange again. After some years her uterus came out. Tumwesigye was given herbs that made it go back inside again. Three months ago the uterus came out again. She came to Virika hospital for help after being advised by her neighbor,” explains AMHF. $280 funds a treatment that will restore her uterus and no longer leave her at risk for severe infection. She will be able to go back to her work in the gardens. Tumwesigye is a widow with seven living children. Let's help her get back on her feet and fund this treatment!

Saruni is a one-month-old baby boy, born just this last January in Tanzania. His mother is a homemaker, and his father is a livestock keeper. Two of his siblings attend school, and his parents hope he will one day as well. At birth, Saruni was diagnosed with bilateral clubfoot. Without intervention, he will be forced to walk on the sides of his feet. His gait and ability to walk will be impacted long-term. However, with clubfoot surgery, which will cost $1,160, Saruni will be able to run, play, and walk pain-free. This cost includes all post-operative care and medication. Saruni's mother states: “I hope that my baby’s feet can be straightened so that when he starts to walk he can walk like other children."

Meet Benedict, a seven year-old boy from Kenya. Benedict is currently in first grade and his favorite subject is science. Benedict was born with a condition called distal hypospadias. His doctor explains, “Benedict was set to undergo circumcision when doctors realized he had a low lying urethral opening. Benedict was born with an abnormally placed urination hole. As a result, he cannot pass urine normally. If not treated, Benedict is at risk of urinary tract infections and infertility in future.” For $665, we can fund a treatment that will repair Benedict’s urinary tract. “We expect after treatment, Benedict will recover fully. He will be able to pass urine normally and he will be no longer at risk of urinary tract infections or infertility in the future,” shares his doctor. Benedict looks forward to growing up healthy after surgery. “I want to build and own houses when I am older," he says.

Meet Soinize, a 50-year-old woman from Haiti who has a type of cancer in her eye known as squamous cell carcinoma. Because of this she has clouded retinas, partial loss of vision, and severe irritation. Soinize is in so much pain that she is often unable to sleep at night. Soinize's husband passed away, so she cares for her four children and pays for their schooling by herself. She washes clothes for her neighbors and sells goods on the street to earn some money, but it’s not enough to support her family and pay for her own medical treatment. To get the appropriate treatment for her cancer, Soinize will need to spend six weeks at a hospital in the Dominican Republic. She needs surgical intervention, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. With $1500 we can help support Soinize on her long journey to health.
