"Lensley was born with a heart condition called tetralogy of fallot, which involves several related defects and holes in the heart that together prevent blood from adequately flowing to his lungs and throughout his body," our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA), writes about this baby boy from Haiti. "Lensley has been very sick since birth, and although he is 12 months old he only weighs nine pounds." Clinicians will be able to perform surgery to address Lensley's heart defects thanks to the generosity of the International Children's Heart Foundation. $5000 will cover a majority of the cost of the procedure, but things like the cost for Lensley's overseas transport remain unfunded. With $1500 we can fund the rest of Lensley's care and get him back on track. "We have been so worried because Lensley won't grow no matter what we try to do," says Lensley's mother. "We are excited to see him start to get bigger after surgery!"

Bith, a 29-year-old man from Cambodia, was climbing a tree to get fruit when he fell and broke his leg. He sought treatment in his village, but it has been unsuccessful. Up until the accident, Bith worked in an electronics factory. It has been two months since he has been able to work. For $300, Bith will receive the surgery and physiotherapy needed to align his bone and restore his mobility, allowing him to make a full recovery and return to work. This opportunity will give Bith back his independence and have a positive impact on his overall quality of life.

Maung Win may be a familiar face to the Watsi community! This happy six-year-old from Burma was [treated for severe burns](https://watsi.org/profile/cdab9973c051-maung-win-oo) that fused his knees together last year. His surgery was a success and he can walk again, but he requires additional care and treatment to resume a normal childhood alongside his peers. “Maung Win currently has never been to school due to having to constantly undergo medical treatment," our partners at Burma Border Projects share. "Maung Win is a very lovable, friendly, and playful boy. He enjoys kickball and playing with his friends.” In order for Maung Win to attend school for the first time after two years in-and-out of hospitals, he requires a colostomy to prevent infection in his burned pelvic area. Maung Win’s father works as a farmer and sells rice, charcoal, and firewood to support his family. His income has not been enough to cover treatment for his son and support his family, so he has had to borrow money from friends and relatives. A physician at Burma Border Projects tells us, “Maung Win’s father constantly worries about what the future holds for his son. In order to get Maung Win treated they left their village in rural Burma where medical treatment was not accessible and travelled across into Thailand.” For $1,500, we can fund a colostomy procedure which will enable Maung Win to move on entirely from the health issues he’s faced since he was so badly burned. This is six-year-old Humphrey! The youngest in a family of four children, Humphrey lives with his parents and siblings in Kenya. Humphrey’s mother sells vegetables by the roadside and his father is a farmer. Since he was one (that’s right, five years ago), Humphrey has had trouble breathing and a constant running nose. His mother took him to numerous hospitals that were unable to help. He has finally been diagnosed with adenoids, which are masses of enlarged tissue between the back of his nose and throat. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation explains that “without treatment, Humphrey will continue having breathing problems, difficulty sleeping, and participating in the extracurricular activities of other children his age.” “I look forward to the day when my child will sleep comfortably,” Humphrey’s mother says. Let’s raise $550 so Humphrey can receive an adenoidectomy at our partner hospital. With this surgery, Humphrey's breathing will improve, he will be able to sleep comfortably, and he will be able to run and play with his friends and family.

Four year old Mary has a bilateral inguinal hernia, which our medical partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation explains is the “inflammation of and pain in the inguinal area, which without treatment could result in permanent damage to her intestine.” Mary's father works as a security guard and is the sole breadwinner for the family, which includes Mary, her two siblings, and her mother, who takes care of their rented two-room home in Kenya. They have had difficulty raising the funds for the surgery Mary needs to be healthy and pain-free. However, Mary’s parents have hope; her mother reports, “We are glad that we’ve finally come to a place where Mary can get treatment.” With support from Watsi donors of $540, Mary will receive a hernia repair, a surgery that the hospital anticipates will stop the pain Mary is experiencing. Let’s give Mary the chance to have a happy, healthy childhood.

Margaret is a mother of two children, ages eleven and six. She does any type of job that is available to earn money to support them - from washing to cleaning to farming. Margaret's husband is a street salesman at their local bus stop. The couple spends almost all of their earnings on their youngest son, who has health problems of his own. Margaret recently experienced a disk prolapse, a condition in which one disc in a her spinal column bulges out and often makes contact with nerves on the spine. This gives her severe back pain and numbness her legs. "I am used to working hard," Margaret says, "but when the pain starts, I feel as though my back is breaking and I cannot do anything. I want to be well again and take care of my family." For $1500, we can give Margaret a hemilaminectomy. This surgery will help alleviate the symptoms of an impinged or irritated nerve root in the spine. The procedure will also create more space in the spinal canal and release Margaret's nerve tissue from pressure. Doctors at our medical partner expect that after the surgery, Margaret will no longer be in pain and will be able to take care of her family.

Say hello to Gloria, a seven-month-old baby from Kenya. She is the youngest of five siblings and both of her parents are farmers on the quarter-acre piece of land that they own. Gloria was born with a condition called hydrocephalus, which means that she has an abnormal build-up of fluid in her brain. The buildup causes Gloria’s head to be enlarged and puts extra pressure inside of her skull. If it isn’t corrected, doctors say that the increased pressure could lead to blindness, severe headaches, brain damage, or even premature death. Because Gloria’s parents are entirely dependent on the proceeds of their farm to survive, it’s been a struggle raising funds for her surgery. Gloria’s mother says, “Both my husband and I have no means of raising the necessary funds for Gloria’s surgery, but we desire that she gets treatment as soon as possible. We pray for support.” For $980, we can fund surgery for a shunt incision to help make Gloria better. The doctors predict that with the surgery, Gloria will live a happy, normal life with no risk of blindness, brain damage, or premature death. Let’s make that a reality for Gloria!

Adrian has hydrocephalus, a buildup of fluid inside the skull which leads to brain swelling and an enlarged head. If Adrian isn’t treated, he is likely to lose his eyesight and is at risk for developing an infection in his brain. For $980, Adrian can receive a shunt insertion that will divert the excess fluid in his skull to another part of his body. The lessened pressure on his nerves will decrease his risks of blindness, brain compression and meningitis. Adrian’s mother says, “I hope for the best. Our wish is for Adrian to receive the best treatment that will enable him to live a healthy life.” Let’s help make this family’s wish come true, and fund little Adrian’s treatment!

Meet Sophoeun, a 31-year-old father from Cambodia. This loving father enjoys spending time with his children, a daughter and a son, and going fishing. Three weeks ago, Sophoeun dislocated his hip in a motorbike accident. Since then, he has stayed at home, unable to work due to pain. After the accident Sophoeun visited a local healer, but his pain has not resolved. Sophoeun needs surgery to fix his dislocated hip, but he can't afford it on his own. By raising $300, Watsi donors can fund this surgery. Successful surgery should alleviate Sophoeun’s pain and restore his mobility, allowing him to return to work and be active with his kids.
