Jovin is a baby boy who was born at the local government dispensary in Arusha, Tanzania. He is the seventh child of his peasant farmer parents. When his parents noticed that Jovin's feet were not straight, they brought him to the hospital for assessment. From there he was referred to The Plaster House, a Watsi partner center that supports children during treatment and recovery for a variety of health conditions.
Jovin has clubfoot - a condition where the feet turn inward and cause difficulty walking. Since Jovin is a baby, this condition means that as he grows up, he would not be able to walk normally.
$1,160 will allow Jovin to receive treatment for his club feet, so that he can walk straight when he begins to walk. The treatment done is called the Ponsetti method, which involves serial casting and a small operation. It is expected that Jovin's club feet will be fully corrected and he will never know that he was born with any kind of deformity.
"I am happy that Jovin will start treatment to straighten his feet and that he will be able to walk normally," his mother shared.
