Ngwe is a 72-year-old retired widow from Burma. She lives with her daughter, her son-in-law, and her two grandsons. Ngwe has an abdominal mass that causes her discomfort. Ngwe sought treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund. She is now scheduled to undergo mass removal surgery on July 5. She is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care.

Ny is a 54-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has three daughters, four grandchildren, and enjoys reading religious texts in his free time. Three months ago, Ny developed a cataract in each eye, causing him itchiness, photophobia, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Ny learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On May 6, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $398 procedure. He says, "I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to see clearly and continue my work on the rice farm."

Dennis is a young student from Kenya. He is the youngest in his family. Dennis has clubfoot of both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Dennis traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on May 2. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,224 to fund Dennis's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily. “I am seeking for support. I want to see my son walking uprightly. God bless you," says his father.

Tha Mee is a 19-year-old wife and mother from Burma. She lives with her husband, her son, her parents, two brothers and a sister. In her free time Tha Mee likes to cook and wash. Tha Mee has a gallstone and suffers from pain in her back and waist. She has been advised to undergo a biliary obstruction repair, a procedure to repair the blockage of the bile ducts, which carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder. If left untreated, Tha Mee's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), Tha Mee is scheduled to undergo her biliary obstruction repair on April 4. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Tha Mee's procedure and care. Tha Mee says, “If I finish surgery and feel better, I will go back home and take care of my son.”

Mi is a 47-year-old woman who lives with her husband and elderly mother in a village in Hpa-an Township, Karen State, Burma. While she looks after her mother and their house, her husband works as a subsistence farmer on their small piece of land. Mi also has a daughter who works in a textile factory in Bangkok. Around three years ago, Mi started to experience what she thought were muscles aches. Later, the muscle aches developed into back pain in the area around her left kidney. For one year, she took pain killers. Later, an x-ray indicated that she had a renal stone in her left kidney. Mi decided to visit our medical partner's care center. Now, she needs surgery to remove her kidney. Surgery is scheduled for February 4 and will cost $1,500. “I just want to recover, go back and look after my mom and the house,” says Mi.

Fridah is a young woman from Kenya. She is the eldest of three children. Fridah has clubfoot of her right foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Fridah traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on January 28. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,224 to fund Fridah's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be ale to walk easily. Fridah says, “I am praying to God that I can undergo surgery and resume my normal life and studies without pain.”

Yan is a grandmother of three from Cambodia. She has one daughter and three grandchildren. She likes to spend time with her family. Eight years ago, Yan developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Yan learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On December 17, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. Her husband says, "I hope my wife's surgery goes well so she can see well and so she feels better."

Mbwana is a child from Tanzania. He has been diagnosed with acquired bilateral genu varus. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, Mbwana has difficulty walking. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $940 to fund corrective surgery for Mbwana. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 6. Treatment will hopefully restore Mbwana's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Mbwana’s mother says, “Please help us.”

Chiwaya is a 12-year-old boy from Kenya. His favorite hobby is reading. “I love reading poetry” he says. Chiwaya has a condition called bilateral genu varus, which means his legs bow outwards. As he grows, this is affecting his ability to walk. Chiwaya needs to undergo surgery, which will help realign his bones and improve his walking. Surgery is scheduled for November 11 and will cost $1,165. "I would like to walk...I would also like to play football and run...Any help meant to improve my condition is appreciated," says Chiwaya.

Beatrice is a farmer from Kenya. She plants maize and beans for her family's consumption. She has three children. Earlier this month, Beatrice sustained serious injuries on her right leg. She is currently walking with crutches because she is unable to walk or stand using her right leg. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On September 11, Beatrice will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. After surgery, Beatrice should be able to walk again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $968 to fund this procedure. She says, "I want to receive treatment so that I can continue taking care of my children."

Stephen is a baby from Kenya. He is the youngest in a family of three children. His parents are farmers. Stephen was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Stephen is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,097 to cover the cost of Stephen's spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on September 10. This procedure will hopefully spare Stephen from the risks associated with his condition, instead allowing him to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory. Stephen’s mother says, “I wish to see my son grow up as a healthy child."

Blessing is a seven-day-old baby from Kenya. She is the the youngest in a family of three children. She has two siblings, who are in primary school. Blessing was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Blessing is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,097 to cover the cost of Blessing's spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on August 6. This procedure will hopefully spare Blessing from the risks associated with her condition, instead allowing her to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory. Blessing’s mother says, “My prayer is to have my child treated and grow up as a normal child like my other children."
