Sophanny is a 67-year-old woman with one daughter and six grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio.
Three years ago, Sophanny developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, tearing, and extreme sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, working, and going anywhere outside.
When Sophanny learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On December 5, doctors performed a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, Sophanny will be able to see clearly again. Now, she needs help to fund this $292 procedure.
"I hope my eyes can see everything more clearly," she says, "so that I can read books on Buddhism, recognize the faces of everyone, and go anywhere outside on my own."
