“Our hope is that Nuru will one day have straight legs and the ability to walk fast and for long distances. Walking is the only way to get to school, and with a good education, our son will have the chance of living a much better life. That is what we want for him,” says Nuru’s mother. Say hello to Nuru, a four-year-old boy from Tanzania and the third born in his family. Our partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation reports, "He likes to color pictures and pull a long train behind him, and he always has a beautiful smile on his face." Diagnosed with bilateral genu varus, Nuru has developed an outward bowing of the legs, affecting his gait. As a result, he is unable to walk or run properly. For $940 we can fund the x-rays and surgical care necessary to give this young boy the chance to walk normally. Nuru’s parents have the responsibility of taking care of their three children, elderly parents, and other relatives, making it difficult for them to come up with enough money for the corrective surgery that their son needs. Meet Suly! She is only a year old and has four older siblings, all younger than eight. While her parents love all of their children equally, working members of the family receive larger portions of food to enable them to contribute more back to the scarce family financial resources. Since Suly is so young, she's not getting much to eat. This is making her lethargic and developmentally delayed. For $525, our medical partner in Guatemala will step in and make sure Suly receives intensive nutritional therapy, giving her the necessary food and vitamins to help her resume healthy developmental growth. Birendra is a sweet nine-year-old boy from Nepal. He fell into a pot of hot oil when he was just a year old, sustaining serious burns on his head. The burns were never properly treated. Now, the resulting scar tissue is preventing the skin on his head from fully healing, and his hair from growing. Birendra is in fourth grade and lives with his mother, grandmother, siblings, and uncle’s family. As is common in Nepal, his father works in India and sends money home. Birendra is well loved - his grandmother confided in our medical partner that he is her favorite grandson! For $1,415, we can pay for surgery that will repair the skin on Birendra's head and allow him to move past this childhood accident.
