Seun is a 22-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has two older brothers, and he enjoys playing soccer with his friends in his free time. Seun has strabismus in both eyes. Strabismus is a misalignment of the eye caused by injury or dysfunction in the associated nerves and muscles. It is difficult for him to see clearly and he experiences a loss in confidence. Seun traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On February 4th, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a corrective procedure to align his eyes. Now, Seun needs help to raise $314 to fund this procedure. "I hope that after my surgery, my eyes will look straight and I will not feel shy around my friends," he said.

Erick is a young student from Kenya. His father is a motorbike taxi driver while his mother is a stay at home mom. Last year, Erick’s father got involved in a road accident and the little savings they had as a family were used up in his treatment. Erick was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Erick has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Fortunately, Erick will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). He is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on March 3rd. AMHF is requesting $535 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. “I want to be a doctor when I grow up,” says Erick.

Kyaw Myat is a five-year-old boy from Burma. He lives with his family in a village in Sagaing Division. Kyaw Myat’s father is a subsistence farmer and sometimes he also works as a day laborer on other villagers’ farms. His mother is a homemaker and takes care of Kyaw Myat’s brother at home. When he was two, Kyaw Myat started to walk. But the following year, his limbs became weak and he could no longer walk properly. Kyaw Myat’s head had also gradually increased in size and he could not control his urine. He was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and Arnold-Chiari syndrome and received treatment for it in 2019. He now needs to undergo further monitoring and a check-up to make sure he is progressing well in his treatment. Doctors want Kyaw Myat to undergo an MRI, an imaging procedure that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce images of bodily organs. This scan will hopefully help doctors monitor his condition and adjust his treatment plan. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $968 to cover the cost of Kyaw Myat's MRI and care, scheduled for January 28th. "If everything is ok with my son, I won't need to worry as much about his future," said Kyaw Myat's father. "I will feel relieved."

Mark is a young boy from Kenya. Mark, second born in a family of two boys, is an ambitious second grader who aspires to be a doctor upon school completion. Mark’s father passed on in October 2017 after a short illness. His mother sells groceries in order to support the family. Mark was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Mark has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Mark will be receiving medical assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on December 13th. AMHF is requesting $535 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. “When I grow up, I want to be a doctor,” says Mark.

Georgeline is a baby from Kenya. She was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Georgeline is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,097 to cover the cost of Georgeline's spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 26. This procedure will hopefully spare Georgeline from the risks associated with her condition, instead allowing her to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory.

Soe is a 35-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her husband and youngest son in Mae Sot, Tak Province. Soe has a bile duct stone. Currently, she experiences from back pain as well as lower abdominal pain. Soe has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, Soe's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), Soe is scheduled to undergo her cholecystectomy on February 13. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Soe's procedure and care. Soe says, “I want to be healthy and stay happy with my family in my own house.”
