Russell joined Watsi on December 2nd, 2018. 5 other people also joined Watsi on that day! Russell's most recent donation supported Sok, a girl from Cambodia, to fund eye surgery.
Russell has funded healthcare for 4 patients in 4 countries.
Sok is a first grade student from Cambodia. She has two younger brothers. She likes to paint and draw. Sok has strabismus in both eyes. Strabismus is a misalignment of the eye caused by injury or dysfunction in the associated nerves and muscles. It is difficult for her to see clearly. Sok traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On November 2, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a corrective procedure to align her eyes. Now, Sok needs help to raise $292 to fund this procedure. Her father says, "I worry about my daughter's vision and hope it can be improved."
Imaculata is a girl from Tanzania. She is the youngest child in a family of three children. She is a friendly and playful girl. When she was one year old, her left foot was burned in a fire. Since then, contractures have developed, limiting her movement. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Imaculata receive treatment. On November 2, surgeons at their care center will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help her regain her mobility. Now, her family needs help to fund this $832 procedure. Imaculata’s father says, “Ever since I became sick I have not been able to work in our farm thus making it hard to support my family. Please help my daughter.”
Firomsa is a toddler from Ethiopia. He loves to play and laugh with toys. His parents are traditional farmers. Firomsa was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Firomsa is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his condition on November 29. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Firomsa's procedure and care. After his recovery, Firomsa will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future. His mother says, “We wanted to pay for his care but we are not able to do it.”
Fabrice is a baby from Kenya. He is the youngest in a family of three children. Fabrice has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Fabrice has been experiencing irritability and and increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Fabrice will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $685 to cover the cost of surgery for Fabrice that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on October 30 and will drain the excess fluid from Fabrice's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Fabrice will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. “Our entire family was shocked to learn of this condition but we are all praying for God’s will in Fabrice’s life,” says Fabrice’s mother.
