Rizza is a three-year-old girl from the mountainous region of Negros Oriental in the Philippines. She loves to play with her two siblings and other neighborhood children. One of her favorite games is hide-and-seek. Her parents are both farmers and work long hours to provide for their family. Rizza has been diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition. "I hope she will recover," says her mother. Our medical partner, International Care Ministries, is requesting $268 to cover the cost of an in-home feeding program to treat Rizza's malnutrition. This will pay for nutrient-enriched food packs, weekly visits from medical staff, and health education for family members. Rizza is scheduled to begin treatment on February 21. After treatment, she will return to playing hide-and-seek.

Seng Thai is a 15-year-old student from Cambodia. During his free time, he enjoys playing soccer and reading books. He is the youngest of three in his family, with one sister and one brother. When Seng Thai was a young boy, he developed a right ear infection that spread to his left. This infection left both of his eardrums perforated. Because of this condition, he experiences ear discharge, hearing loss, and ringing in his ears. These symptoms make it difficult for Seng Thai to hear in school. Seng Thai and his guardian traveled one hour by motorbike to reach our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for evaluation and treatment. On January 17, he will undergo surgery to repair his eardrums. This will allow his hearing to improve. Now, CSC is requesting $831 in funding.

35-year-old Ketty is a local farmer from Uganda. She's a single mother of two boys, which both attend a local primary school in their village. For the past two years, she has had lower abdominal pains that have been incurable by local herbalists, and says that the pain has only continued to increase. During her free time, Ketty enjoys singing to her family, praying, and being with other women in the community. Ketty used to be on her village leadership committee as the secretary of defense, but could not continue serving her community because of the pain she was experiencing and the role requiring someone very mobile. For $321, Ketty can receive care to treat her abdominal uterine and vaginal bleeding. Ketty says she's looking forward to getting treatment and recovering fully, after which she will resume her activities in the village. She hopes that in the future she can be able to raise capital from her digging to start a small business.

Sai Nob is a 38-year-old fisherwoman with two sons. She likes to plant vegetables and cook for her family. In June, Sai Nob was in a motor vehicle collision that caused a fracture in her left forearm. She visited a Khmer traditional healer for treatment, but her symptoms did not improve. Since then, Sai Nob has experienced pain when lifting objects and working. When Sai Nob learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four hours to seek treatment. On November 23, CSC surgeons performed an open reduction internal fixation procedure to heal her fracture. After recovery, Sai Nob should be able to work again. Now, she needs help to fund this $411 procedure.

Srey Ol is a 29-year-old farmer who lives with her husband and daughter in Cambodia. In her free time, she likes to stay at home, cook food, and clean her home. On July 9, 2016, Srey Ol was hit by a motorbike, fracturing her left lower leg bones (tibia and fibula). After the accident, she was seen in a hospital in her hometown, where she got a cast. Srey Ol then traveled to Vietnam for further treatment and an external fixation was placed. In an external fixation, pins are inserted through the skin into the bone and held in place by an external frame. Even after treatment, Srey Ol is in pain, and it is difficult for her to walk. She heard about Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) from her brother. She traveled for six hours with her brother to reach CSC for evaluation and treatment. For $411, Srey Ol will undergo a tibial fracture treatment in which CSC doctors will use a frame to correct her tibia, allowing her to walk normally and without pain. Funding for Srey Ol also covers the costs of two weeks of hospital care, including X-rays, lab tests, food, and physical therapy. After the procedure, Srey Ol will be able to go home and continue her work as a farmer.
