“All we need is our daughter to be well – have the ability to sit and later on walk and continue with normal growth,” share Helen’s parents.
Meet Helen, a six-month-old baby girl from Tanzania. Helen has hydrocephalus, a medical condition that causes abnormal head size. Our medical partner, African Mission Health Foundation (AMHF) explains: "the circumference of Helen’s head is increasing due to increased intracranial pressure caused by excess cerebral spinal fluid. Helen has no trunk control and she is unable to sit.”
“She was born with a normal size head, but had problems with her chest, severe coughing,” adds AMHF. “Despite the condition of her chest, Helen was feeding well, active and continued with normal growth. The size of her head started to increase when she was three months old.”
Recently, Helen’s condition has grown more severe. Helen is experiencing fever, a loss of appetite, and frequent crying. “If not treated, Helen is at risk of losing her vision and getting other complications,” says AMHF.
AMHF continues, “Helen’s parents are worried about the condition of their daughter and badly need financial support to save the life of their child. Helen’s mother is a homemaker and her father keeps and sells organic chickens. His income is not enough to cover the cost of operation, which Helen needs, as well as support his family with all their needs.”
$690 will fund a life-changing treatment for Helen. As a result of the treatment, Helen is expected to have a better chance at continuing with normal growth. Let’s help Helen access the healthcare she needs.
