Seventeen-year-old Thar is a novice monk who has been living with a cardiac disease since he was born. Thar’s parents own a tea shop to help cover the family necessities, and his sister, who works in a sewing factory, sends money as often as she can to help support the family. When he was young, Thar's physical and cognitive development was slow. Thar was often extremely weak and sick, which caused him to sit quietly by himself rather than play with the other children. Thar’s mother is “very worried for his health and the costs of paying for his treatment.” She hopes for Thar to be healthy and strong like his peers. In the future, Thar hopes to regain his health and successfully become a monk. For $1,500, we can fund Thar’s surgery and help him achieve those dreams!

Sarith is a spirited 22-year-old man who seriously injured his leg in a motorbike accident in April. Sarith has struggled to find the right medical treatment since his injury. At first, he visited a traditional healer, but he could not relieve his pain. He went to a local hospital in June and received a cast, but ended up cutting it off himself after it became unbearably hot and itchy. He is still in pain and unable to play soccer, his favorite sport. Luckily, doctors at our Cambodian medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, have found a way to help. For $400, we can give Sarith surgery to help realign the bones in his leg and outfit him with an external fixation device to keep the proper tension on the reconstructed area as it heals. With your help, we can get Sarith back on that soccer field!

John is an eight-year-old boy with a bright future ahead of him. After losing his parents, John and his sister were placed in an orphanage. It was in the orphanage that his current caregiver, Maureen, noticed that John's knees were growing inward. John has a condition commonly called "knock knees." John's legs cause him pain and limping, but a simple surgery will straighten his legs and relieve his pain. With his right knee surgery already completed, John is half way on his journey towards straight legs. Now he needs treatment of his left knee. The surgery will cost $1,000 and it will be his last step in the journey towards a disability free life!

Peace is almost three-years-old and looks up to her two older siblings. Although Peace is young, she is beginning to notice that she is different from her siblings because of the colostomy she received a few months ago. Peace was born with an anorectal malformation, which means she cannot pass stool properly. The colostomy procedure she underwent in a local Kenyan hospital is a temporary solution, but if Peace does not receive surgery soon she could develop a severe infection. Peace's parents were barely able to save enough money for her first procedure, but Peace's father passed away the same month she received her colostomy. Her father was the sole breadwinner in the family and now Peace's mother is struggling to provide for her three children's basic needs, let alone the cost of Peace's surgery and special diet. For $1,050, Peace will receive an anorectoplasty to correct her intestinal malformation and allow her to pass stool normally. This surgery will let Peace lead a normal life and grow up to be like her older siblings whom she admires so much.

Eleven-year-old Mengtong fell down a flight of stairs when he was six and dislocated his knee. Without immediate access to medical care, Mengtong's knee is still dislocated four years later. It causes pain and immobility, and makes it difficult for Mengtong to do two of his favorite activities; going to school and playing with his younger brother. A simple $300 surgery can repair Mengtong's knee and help him get back to the active, healthy life every eleven-year-old boy deserves!
