Balkrishna is a seven-year-old boy living with his parents and younger sister in Nepal. He enjoys playing volleyball, reading Nepali stories, and taking care of his sister. His family lives off of a farm, and one of Balkrishna’s responsibilities is to care for the cattle.
One morning, while taking his cattle out to graze, Balkrishna tripped and fell on some stones, and fractured his left elbow. Since then, his elbow has been swollen and tender, and he has been in too much pain to use his left arm. He needs help with basic activities, such as getting out of bed, showering, and taking care of his responsibilities. His father worries that Balkrishna will further injure his arm, as he is very restless and frequently jumps and runs around.
Balkrishna needs surgical intervention to set his elbow and stabilize his joint with internal insertion of pins and a cast. Possible, our medical partner, tells us that for $579 Balkrishna can receive the treatment he needs. The total cost covers the surgery, three days of inpatient care, a cast for three months, and in-home follow up visits.
Following his recovery, Balkrishna will be able to run, play, study, and go about his day without pain.
