Myo is a two-month-old boy from Burma. His father works as a tenant farmer and a day laborer on neighboring farms. He lives with his parents in the western part of the country. Soon after he was born, Myo's abdomen began to swell. They took him to a midwife, who recommended that they increase his fluid intake. Myo was unable to drink more, however, and his abdomen grew larger and larger. The midwife provided them with medication to help release gas, but it did not help. His parents took him to the hospital and were sent home after a few days when his swelling went down. Soon enough, the swelling returned and his parents took him back to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a hernia. This means that there is a gap in the abdominal wall where the intestine protrudes through. Surgery is required to correct the issue. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Myo's surgery. He is scheduled for treatment on October 20 at our medical partner's care center, Mae Sot General Hospital. After his operation, Myo will be able to grow and develop normally. “I want my son to be a doctor when he grows up,” Myo's mother says. “I want my son to get a chance to study in Thailand," his father adds.

"Dhansara was chopping wood in the forest when she lost her balance, slipped and fractured her right leg," our medical partner, Possible, tells us. "The area of injury has swollen and she has been taking medicine to subside the pain." Dhansara is a 46-year-old woman living in Nepal with her husband and 12-year-old daughter. Her broken right femur has added stress on her family. "She is all that I have," says Dhansara's husband. Possible explains, "He worries about how he will keep the family going now that his wife is in a critical condition." For $579, we can fund a procedure to re-align the bones in Dhansara's leg. "Because it's an acutely complicated case, the doctors are trying to realign Dhansara's fractured bones and hold it in place with the help of pins," Possible shares. “We have really worked hard to try to get the right treatment for our son and we came across many obstacles," Patrick's mother says, "but we still have hope. We hope that our son will one day walk properly, allowing him to continue with normal growth and have the ability to perform well in various activities.” Patrick is an eighteen-month-old from Tanzania. The second born in his family, behind Patrick’s serious demeanor is a curious mind, constantly analyzing and absorbing the world around him. He is happiest around his mother or when playing with cars. Patrick was born with unilateral clubfoot, requiring him to use the lateral aspect of his right foot for walking. This makes him walk and run slowly compared to other children, and will turn into a life-long disability if left untreated. “Patrick’s parents are small scale farmers, mostly relying on growing and selling maize and peanuts,” says AMHF. “Given that they only own a small piece of land, even what they get is little.
