Haron is a young boy who also has a twin sister. He has fallen behind her in school because of his difficulty hearing and other medical challenges he has faced, like meningitis and bladder stones. But he has now enrolled in a special school and with hearing treatment too, they are hopeful that he can have a higher quality of life ahead. Haron needs hearing aids in both ears to help him hear clearly again and communicate with his peers. Haron's mother sells food in their local community in Soweto and currently, his father has no source of income. The family has been working hard to pay for his frequent medical visits since he was very young and needs assistance to help with the cost of his hearing treatment. Haron's mother shared, “We have been through a lot. We have visited several hospitals since our kid was born. He is currently unable to hear, and it is affecting his studies. We have now taken him to a special school because of his condition.“

Susan is a 59-year-old homemaker who together with her husband have five children. Unfortunately, her husband had a stroke and Susan is unemployed, so their family depends greatly on their land. For two months, Susan has been experiencing heavy bleeding. She has been diagnosed with uterine cancer, and she needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $755 to fund Susan's surgery. On September 15th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at AMH's care center. Once recovered, Susan will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Susan shared, "I am very scared because the doctor said I have cancer, but I trust in God and hope to see my tomorrow. Please plead for help on my behalf so that my life can be saved and I can continue caring for my family."

Ann is a social, jovial, and bright young girl. Ann is in currently in grade six; she likes reading and aspires to become a surgeon in the future. Ann was born with a congenital musculoskeletal malformation in her legs and started therapy when she was two years old, but eventually had to stop due to a lack of finances. As Ann has grown, her condition has continued to worsen and is now affecting her mobility, her studies, and her self-esteem. Ann was recently seen at the Cure Hospital Mobile Clinic in Embu, Kenya, and recommended for surgery. Ann's mother is a single mom who makes her living selling samosas in their hometown. Ann's mother also has from a similar untreated congenital malformation and cannot walk for long distances. On August 8th, Ann is scheduled to undergo multiple osteotomy surgery to correct the bowing in her legs. The treatment will have a great impact on her life, allowing her to walk freely again, engage with her peers, and continue her schooling. “I want my daughter to be treated so that she can be able to walk like other girls,” says Ann’s mother.

Namugerwa is a farmer and a mother of three daughters who are all in school. While studying in high school, Namugerwa's father passed away, she she left school and got married to a farmer. She complements her income by working temporary jobs in their neighbourhood. In her free time, Namugerwa really enjoys music. For nine months, Namugerwa has been experiencing backache, fatigue, and other uncomfortable symptoms. She tried managing the symptoms with local herbs but it has not improved. Fortunately, she visited our medical partner's care center, Nyakibale Hospital, and the doctors diagnosed that she has a cervical lesion. Namugerwa's gynaecologist recommends a total abdominal hysterectomy to ensure her condition does not become malignant and metastasize. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMH), is requesting $219 to fund Namugerwa's surgery. On August 3rd, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Namugerwa will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Namugerwa shared with a hopeful smile, “I am looking forward to having an improved life like it was before once am given your support to undergo surgery."
