Meet Jemima, a 29-year-old woman who lives in Uganda. “Jemima is pregnant with her first child, and the baby is in a breech position" explains our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation. “Jemima is a housewife and her husband, Medard, is a student studying to become a nurse. Bhawana is a five-month-old baby girl from Nepal. Her large and loving family cares for her together; her grandparents, uncle, and aunt are all chipping in to help her single mother raise her. The family depends on farming for a living. Recently, Bhawana was burned by an open cooking fire. Her hand was badly damaged and needs to be amputated in order to prevent infection. To make matters worse, the crop her family depends on to survive yields only enough to last them for three months out of the year. With money already tight, paying for Bhawana's medical care themselves would be impossible. For $1495, we can redirect the course of Bhawana's life by amputating her hand, preventing infection, and ensuring she grows up healthy.
