Marthe is a student from Haiti. She lives with her parents and three siblings in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. She is in seventh grade and is an excellent student. Marthe has a cardiac condition called atrial septal defect. A hole exists between the two upper chambers of her heart. Blood leaks through this hole, leaving her sick and short of breath. Marthe will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On September 9, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will sew a patch over the hole so that blood can no longer leak through it. Another organization, HeartGift Foundation, is contributing $17,000 to pay for surgery. Marthe's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Marthe's family overseas. She says, "I am looking forward to my surgery so that I can stop worrying about my heart!"

Ronny is a young boy from Kenya. He was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Ronny is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on July 2. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $700 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. “We travelled all the way from Kericho with a spark of hope that our son will get help,” says Ronny’s father.

Eng is a 66-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. In her free time, she likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visit the pagoda with her granddaughter. One year ago, Eng developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, photophobia, tearing, and cloudy vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Eng learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 1, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope that after my surgery I will be able to grow vegetables nearby the house to sell and eat."

John is a man from Kenya. He is a father of two children who are in primary school. A little over a year ago, John sustained a spinal injury when he fell from a tree. He has not been able to afford the necessary care to treat his injury. Now, he has been diagnosed with cervical mylopathy, a degenerative disorder that causes gait imbalance and clumsiness due to a compressed spinal cord. Fortunately, John is now scheduled fo spinal surgery on March 15 to treat this condition. He needs help raising $1,500 to fund this procedure. John says, “My prayer is to be able to walk again and in upright gait. I am really suffering due to this condition."

Parani is a child from Tanzania. He is the first born child in a family of three children. Last year, Parani fell into a fire and got burned around his chest and neck. The burn contractures limit his ability to move because of the tightening of the skin. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Parani receive treatment. On March 5, surgeons at their care center will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him move his head easily again. Now, he needs help to fund this $832 procedure. Parani’s mother says, “Thank you very much for coming in and helping our son we had no means of affording his daily dressing he now needs a surgery which we can’t afford to please help.”

Abraham is a hopeful and hard-working auditor from Malawi. He lives with his nephew and has been experiencing both financial and health difficulties for some time. Since July 2018, Abraham has been experiencing pain and failure to urinate. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Abraham's surgery. On January 31, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. He went to several government hospitals, which were unable to help him due to lack of equipment and supplies. He is relieved that he will finally be helped and should be able to go back to work soon. He says, "I have been struggling with these issues since 2016, and I am so grateful that God has blessed me with this assistance so that I can finally return to good health!"

Domingo is a retired carpenter originally from Mozambique who lives in Malawi. He tends to his farm with his friends from his village. With his wife, he has eight children and 15 grandchildren. Since March 2018, Domingo has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia has cause swelling and pain and prevents him from working fully. Fortunately, on January 17, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $334 to fund Domingo's surgery. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and six nights of hospital stay. Domingo is very excited to be better and to go home and watch his crops grow so he can eat them. He says, “This program is wonderful...Thank you.”

Turyatunga is a farmer from Uganda. He is married and a father of eight children. For three years, Turyatunga has had a hernia. This hernia causes him pain and discomfort. Fortunately, on January 22, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Turyatunga's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. He says, “After surgery I will be happy and resume with my work.”

Godfrey is Godfrey is a father to six and grandfather to 11. from Malawi. He is a retired medical assistant who spends his free time volunteering at a local clinic near his hometown, as well as hanging out with his family and grandchildren. Since October 2016, Godfrey has been experiencing frequent urination and pain. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Godfrey's surgery. On October 18, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. He says, "It is an economic relief to receive this surgery. Having to pay for transport to the hospital is a burden itself so I am happy to not have to worry about the medical bills also. Please continue this service and helping others."

Serey is a housewife from Cambodia. She has three sons. She likes to spend time with her family and watch TV. Nineteen years ago, she fell off her motorcycle and has experienced hip pain ever since. She cannot walk or work. Fortunately, Serey learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. At CSC, surgeons can perform a total hip replacement to relieve Serey of her pain and allow her to walk easily. Treatment is scheduled for October 16, and Serey needs help raising $1,025 to pay for this procedure. She says, "I look forward to being able to walk again."

Vouch is a farmer from Cambodia. She has two daughters, four sons, and six grandchildren. She likes to watch TV and look after her grandchildren. A month ago, Vouch developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurred vision, pain, and headaches. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Vouch learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 10, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope I can see everything clearer than now so I can continue my work as farmer again."

Gwazeni is a farmer from Malawi. He lives with his wife on their small farm, and he spends his days tending his land and animals. In his free time, Gwazani likes to sing with his church choir. Since January 2018, Gwazeni has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Gwazeni's surgery. On April 5, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Gwanzani was thrilled to find out his surgery would be funded, and he is looking forward to going home. He says, "Thank you for this help."
