Kisembo is a 61-year-old father of seven who sells bananas off his farm and occasional carpentry jobs. "About ten years ago Kisembo developed a small swelling on his right thigh, and since then the swelling has been increasing in size" our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) tells us.
AMHF continues, “It is not painful but it makes him uncomfortable especially when walking, due to friction of the thighs. He visited a hospital in 2015 but he couldn’t afford to pay for his treatment, so Kisembo had decided to live with the swelling but he is worried that it might grow too big and at some point he might not be able to walk, which will not be nice because he is getting old.”
With $200, Kisembo's mass will be surgically removed. This operation will ensure that he no longer experiences painful swelling or have the worry that he will one day be unable to walk.
Kisembo shares, "After surgery I hope to continue working hard on my banana farm so that I can get money to educate my two young children and to support my family."
