Ranny is a 33-year-old in Cambodia who sells bags online to earn income. Ranny has one son, and enjoys listening to music, and playing on Facebook. Five month ago, Ranny developed a chalazion in her left eye, causing her blurred vision, irritation, and discomfortable look. A chalazion is an inflamed cyst in a patient's tear gland. She shared, "it is irritating me and makes it difficult for me to see clearly and get my work done." Ranny traveled to seek treatment from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On May 5th, surgeons will remove the cyst through a chalazion excision procedure. After recovery, Ranny's symptoms should improve drastically. She needs help raising $187 to fund this procedure. "I hope that my eye will look much better after my operation, so I can go anywhere, especially I can continue to sell bags and other products online," Ranny said.

Chheng is a 60-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has nine children, seven grandchildren, and enjoys listening to the news on the radio during his free time. One year ago, Chheng developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him vision loss. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Chheng learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 21, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $211 procedure. Chheng said, " hope that I will be able to see clearly so I can return to my work on the farm and can help feed the cows."

Veasna is a 25-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He is married with two sons, and when he is not looking after his children, he likes to drink coffee, watch boxing on television, help the family around the house, and feed farm animals for extra income. Three years ago, Veasna was in a motorcycle accident and fractured his right elbow and left leg. He was treated at a hospital in Phnom Penh for his injuries, where doctors fixated him with internal hardware to heal his fractures. Now, Veasna no longer experiences severe pain and his fractures have healed properly, and he needs his hardware to be removed. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On March 6th, Veasna will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. Surgery will remove the internal hardware from both Veasna's elbow and leg. "I hope that after the wires are removed, I will not have any pain and the wounds will heal," said Veasna.

Sidaneth is a 25-year-old receptionist from Cambodia. She has two sisters and brothers, and enjoys listening to music and hanging out with her friends. When she was young, Sidaneth had a serious ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her ear to perforate. For this reason, Sidaneth experiences hearing loss, discharge, tinnitus, and vertigo. She often feels dizzy and cannot hear others clearly. Sidaneth traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. She previously received treatment for her other ear, but now needs follow up to complete the procedure on the other side. On January 7th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $464 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. "I hope that surgery will clear up my ear infection and my hearing will improve," she shared.

Katurebe is a farmer from Uganda. He is a married father to two children--two girls who are married and are now small-scale farmers. He practices farming together with his elderly wife and they stay together in their small semi-permanent house. Sometimes when they can’t meet their basic needs like salt and soap, he works on other people’s farms to earn a living. Since three years ago, Katurebe has had a hydrocele, which is a swelling in a sensitive area. This hydrocele causes him pain and prevents him from working. Fortunately, on March 17th, he will undergo hydrocele repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $139 to fund Katurebe's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Katurebe says, “I hope I will get better after my surgery is done.”

Ayebazibwe is a farmer from Uganda. She is a married mother to one young child. Her husband is an accountant and his salary is the major source of income for their family. She earns a living through practicing small-scale farming and mostly grows beans and maize. She has a lot of family members dependent on her as many of her sisters are still in school. Six years ago, Ayebazibwe began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty swallowing. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Ayebazibwe receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on April 7th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money. Ayebazibwe says, “I hope to feel much better after my surgery.”
