Kakrona is a 10-year-old student from Cambodia. He is the middle child, with one older sister and a younger brother. His mother works in a clothing factory, and his father is a construction worker. Kakrona is currently in 5th grade and aspires to become a teacher when he grows up. At home, he likes to eat rice with chicken soup. In his free time, he loves playing soccer with his friends. Kakrona was born with a benign mass on his left forearm. The mass has grown in size and makes him uncomfortable. In the last few months, it has become painful to the touch, and because it is growing in size, Kakrona feels uncomfortable at school. The family would like it removed to prevent complications, such as bleeding or further growth. On December 2nd, surgeons will remove the mass on Kakrona's arm. Kakrona's family can contribute $100 but our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, needs $173 more to fund the procedure. Kakrona's mother shared, "I hope that after surgery, Kakrona can play and study comfortably with his friends."

Rayuth is an active 5-year-old with two sisters. They all live with his mother. His older sister is 14 years old, and studies in grade 8, and his other sister is 12-year-old and studies in grade 7. His mother works in a massage shop and she shared that she has been divorced for 5 years and is raising her children on her own. Rayuth enjoys playing with toys with his sisters, painting, and looking at the pictures in books. At home, he likes to eat fried chicken and drink soda! When he grows up, he said he would like to be a policeman. Rayuth has had a mass on the right side of his neck for a year; growing slowly and with mild pain. Rayuth and his mother traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On December 2nd, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Now, Rayuth's family needs help to raise $231 to fund this procedure. Rayuth's mother said, "I want him to get well after surgery. I hope he can go to school with other children and have no more pain."

Zera is a five-year-old girl and the firstborn child in her family of two. She is a curious girl and very helpful with her young sister at home. Zera has not started school yet, but her parents hope to enroll her in school when she is seven years old.  Zera was born with a right clubfoot; a condition whereby her foot is curved inward at the ankle making it hard and painful to walk. Her parents and relatives tried to get her treatment at nearby clinics and were referred to other hospitals. Unfortunately, they could not afford to go. Zera has been experiencing difficulty in walking and playing due to the way her leg is curved. A few months ago Zera's aunt had her child treated at Watsi's Medical Partner's Care Center ALMC Hospital where she shared about Zera's condition. Zera's aunt told their family about the hospital hoping she could be assisted. Zera's parents are subsistence farmers who do not earn enough to pay for Zera's medical care and they need help so that Zera can start her treatment. This will allow Zera to be able to walk without difficulty when she starts school. Fortunately, Zera's family traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on December 15th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $935 to fund Zera's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be able to walk easily and free of pain. Zera shared with us, “I feel pain when walking, I cannot walk fast or run like my friends. I will be very happy if I receive treatment and be able to walk.”

Chantha is a 4th grade student from Cambodia. She is the youngest of four siblings, and enjoys playing with her toys, watching television, and going for walks around the village with the family. When she was two years old, Chantha accidentally came into contact with an open flame and burned three of her fingers on her left hand. The burn has since healed, but the skin has tightened around the fingers, making it difficult for her to flex her hand. When Chantha learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On September 11th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to release the skin around her fingers and allow her to move her fingers and hand without difficulty. Now, she needs help to fund this $448 procedure. "I hope that my daughter will be able to move her hand normally and her hand will look better than before." -Chantha's Mother
