Nheat is a 76-year-old rice farmer with one son, four daughters, and many grandchildren. Her husband passed away 30 years ago. Currently, Nheat lives with her youngest son, who is also a farmer. Due to her age, she no longer goes to the field to farm. Instead, she enjoys spending her time taking care of her many grandchildren and listening to monks preaching on the radio. Five years ago, Nheat developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurred vision, photo phobia, and sometime tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Nheat learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour with her son seeking treatment. On March 22nd, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Nheat shared, "I hope after surgery that I can see well again, help my daughter-in-law take care of the grandchildren, take care of myself, and go back to the pagoda on my own."

Teresia is a homemaker with five children between ages six and 26. Her husband is a casual laborer who depends on manual jobs to earn a living for their family. They live together in Thika, a town in south-central Kenya, in a three roomed rental house. In 2017, Teresia began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty swallowing. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and she needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. She has made several trips to different healthcare facilities that have exhausted her savings. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Teresia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on March 19th at AMH's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. The procedure will cost $686, and she and her family need help raising money. Teresia shared, “I have had treatment but I keep feeling unwell. This time I am hopeful all will be well, but first I need this surgery."

Nehimia is a 1-year-old from Ethiopia. He is a sweet, playful boy and the first child to his parents. Nehimia loves listening to music, and watching animation movies. His dad is a gym trainer, but his income was affected as a result of the closure of gyms during the pandemic. His mom is a housewife and also has been unable to work during the pandemic, though she used to work in a small boutique. His family lives together in a government house and they pay a small fee for rent. Nehimia was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Nehimia is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on March 4th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,293 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Nehimia's mother shared, “I hope my child will heal and grow and become a minister in the house of God.”
