Rosa is a 30-year-old single woman who lives in Guatemala’s rural highlands. She works as an assistant nurse, and she likes to create traditional embroideries in her free time. Rosa has always struggled with her eyesight, but she had formerly been unable to see a doctor for an eye examination. One month ago, Rosa had the opportunity to attend a free clinic to get her eyesight tested. At the clinic, Rosa was diagnosed with myopia, or nearsightedness. In order to fix her blurry vision and inability to see faraway objects, Rosa needs glasses. Our medical partner, Wuqu' Kawoq, is requesting $552 to fund Rosa's new glasses fit with prescription lenses, which she is scheduled to receive on June 9. "I thank the institution and the donors for giving me the opportunity to be the beneficiary of this support. For lack of economic resources I have been unable to go to a doctor about my vision problems. Thank you for this great help. I know I will be able to see better and I will continue to help other needy people with their health problems, " says Rosa.

Three-year-old Neymarah lives in Haiti with her mother, who works as a tailor, and her grandmother. She likes to help her mother prepare the fabric for the school uniforms that she makes. Our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA), tells us, “Neymarah was born with a condition called complete atrioventricular canal defect, in which blood mixes between all four chambers of the heart without fully obtaining oxygen. This leaves her weak and out of breath and would eventually be fatal.” Neymarah needs surgery to create two functioning valves between the upper and lower chambers on both sides of the heart and to place patches over the existing defects (holes). “Following surgery,” says HCA, “Neymarah should have normal circulation restored to her heart. She should not need further surgery in the future.” For $1500, HCA will provide the overseas preparation and transportation required for Neymarah’s surgery. MECENAT is donating $5000 to cover the remaining treatment costs. Neymarah is excited to start preschool after surgery. Her mother shares, "I want Neymarah to be able to walk to and from school like the other children."

Meet Ruth! Ruth is a five-year-old from Ethiopia. Ruth's mother and father are both government employees who work tediously to support their daughter. Ruth has a growing tumor on her arm. This condition is causing her severe pain and discomfort all the time. If this condition is not treated soon, her tumor may turn cancerous. Ruth hopes to become a "nice doctor" in the future! If Ruth receives treatment, her tumor will be removed and it will no longer cause her family distress. For $700, we can fund Ruth's treatment!

Davidson is a two-year-old little boy whose single father wishes to see him grow up healthy and strong. After being born with a cleft lip and palate, birth defects that occur when a baby’s lip and mouth do not form properly during pregnancy, Davidson had a hard time breastfeeding and taking in liquids because the fluid would pass through the opening in his mouth into his nostrils. Fortunately, Davidson was able to receive surgery to repair his lip, which is often the first half of the full course of treatment for this condition. Now he needs our help to complete the second half of his treatment, fixing his palate! The doctors expect that after this procedure, Davidson will be able to eat normally and live a healthier life. Davidson’s father is excited to see his son well again and is already making plans for the future, like sending him to school. Lexidamise is a one-year-old little girl from Haiti. Laxidamise was born with the duo of cleft lip and palate, birth defects that occur when a baby’s lip and mouth do not form properly during pregnancy. A few months ago, Lexidamise received surgery to repair her lip. Now she needs one more procedure to fix her palate so she can learn to eat like other kids her age. Lexidamise’s mother explains how it is difficult to find anyone who can feed and take care of her child in the special way she needs. As a result, she has been unable to work and cannot afford treatment for Lexidamise. For $960, Lexidamise will receive surgery to repair her palate and complete the last stage of her treatment. Everline told Lwala Community Alliance that she is feeling good and doesn’t have any complaints so far. Let’s keep her feeling that way. For $215 Lwala can keep Everline and the baby healthy. Everline will receive prenatal care, a hospital delivery and a post-birth checkup. Pregnancy and childbirth are perilous for too many women like Everline, who may not otherwise be able to afford essential care.
