Anna is a 46-year-old widow from Uganda who works very hard to send all five of her children to school. Anna is a subsistence farmer, growing food on rented land and selling any extra crops in the market for a small cash income. She additionally works as a farm laborer to supplement what she earns. In her spare time, Anna heads the savings and loan association in her village that helps members take out small loans to pay for needed items and school fees. She is also an active member of her church, leading her village's fellowship group. For two years, Anna has had a very painful inguinal hernia that has affected her ability to work. Doctors have recommended surgery, however Anna is only able to subsidize $7 of the treatment's cost. Our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, is requesting $229 to fund Anna's surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 3 and, once completed, will hopefully allow Anna to live more comfortably. After surgery, Anna is looking forward to being able to work full time so she can grow more food for her family. “I am so happy to have received this assistance," says Anna. "I would like to tell all the donors thank you for what they have done to help me.”

Laura is a 21-year-old student from rural Uganda. Laura comes from a large family of seven children. During her free time, Laura likes to take nature walks and visit friends. Laura has been living with a painful umbilical hernia for the past eight years that has only become more painful over time. Seeking treatment through our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, she is now scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on June 12. She is requesting $229 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Laura is training to be a midwife but her hernia causes her pain when she is assisting mothers during delivery. After surgery, Laura hopes to continue with her studies. She loves being a midwife and helping mothers bring their babies into this world. “I thank the donors for the support, my mother is not able to pay for the surgery, and we struggle a lot with raising tuition and other home needs,” she says.

Meet Molly, a 56-year-old mother of seven. Molly and her husband James live in Uganda, about 30 km from our partner hospital. Molly sustained severe burns which left a contracture, or tightening of skin, on her shoulder. She has not been able to work normally or stretch her left hand. Molly's left hand is now not fully functional, which prevents her from farming to support her family. She therefore finds it challenging to gather enough food to feed her family, and do work around the house. Amidst this, Molly finds her joy in meeting with other women in the community and getting inspiration from them about developmental projects. Molly also is happy when her children have enough to eat. Molly has lived with this disability for now five years. For $351, Molly can receive a contracture release operation to loosen the skin and allow her to regain full mobility in her arm. After her recovery, she will be able to work and support her family again. "I would like to thank everyone for the support rendered unto us," Molly shared. "May God bless you abundantly."

Benon, a 65-year-old farmer from remote Uganda, is married with three sons, four daughters, and 15 grandchildren. He enjoys singing in his local church, and always makes sure he is living at peace with his neighbors. Recently, animals have destroyed Benon's crops and left him struggling to earn a living. He has resorted to growing coffee since the animals do not eat the coffee. One year and four months ago, Benon got into a road traffic accident and broke his patella. He was taking his produce to the market. Benon never remained the same after this accident. He wishes he could walk longer distances but at the moment he can’t. He cannot visit relatives or travel far due to the instability in his leg, and also the pain. For $534, Benon will have a pin insertion operation to treat his fracture, as well as casting. After treatment, he will be able to walk again with ease. "I thank everyone that is supporting my hospital fees," Benon said. "They have not only helped me but Uganda as a whole. Meet Lauriyano, a 62-year-old retired nature guide from Uganda. Lauriyano and his wife have three children, and he works hard growing tea to support his family. Lauriyano is a selfless man, according to his medical team. Recently, Lauriyano was hit by a car while riding on a motorcycle to go to train farmers in another sub-county, where tea growing was not yet embraced. Lauriyano sustained a fractured femur, but now is unable to afford the surgery he needs to recover. Lauriyano hopes to resume his visits in his community to help more people with farming knowledge after his treatment. He also hopes to go back to church and serve as he did before the accident. With $534, Lauriyano will undergo surgery to realign and repair his fractured femur. With this operation, he will soon be able to walk again and resume his role in the community.
