Lin is a 66-year-old woman from Cambodia. She likes to listen to the radio and do the housework in her free time. One year ago, Lin developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Lin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On July 4, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope that I will be able to see clearly and can help with work around the house."

Srey Mom is a finance student from Cambodia. She is the second youngest of five sisters, and she enjoys playing games on Facebook in her free time. When she was ten years old, Srey Mom had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Srey Mom experiences discharge, itchiness, tinnitus, and hearing loss. She has a difficult time communicating with others and finds it difficult to focus at school. Srey Mom traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 2, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope that after surgery, I will be able to hear clearly and will no longer have an infection."

Telesa is a mother of three from Malawi. She lives with her husband and works on the family farm. She enjoys chatting with her four grandchildren in her free time. Since February 2019, Telesa has been experiencing abdominal pain and extensive bleeding, causing severe anemia. She has been diagnosed with unspecified vaginal bleeding. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $650 to fund Telesa's surgery. On March 28, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and seven nights of hospital stay. She and her family have accepted the need for surgery to remove the disease. They are so happy to know that she will soon be feeling better after this procedure. She says, "I look forward to being strong and able to do my work at home, on the farm, and around the house for my family. This program is helping very much to remove the disease."

May is 17-year-old farmer from Burma. She lives with her mother, older siblings, and an uncle. Since she was 13, May has been experiencing pelvic, leg, and back pain in addition to frequent vomiting. She has been diagnosed with fibroids, which are benign growths in the uterus. She needs to undergo a myomectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove the fibroids. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), is requesting $960 to fund May's surgery. She is scheduled to undergo her myomectomy on March 19 at BCMF's care center, Mae Sot General Hospital. She says, "In the future I want to keep helping my mother on our farm."

Parani is a child from Tanzania. He is the first born child in a family of three children. Last year, Parani fell into a fire and got burned around his chest and neck. The burn contractures limit his ability to move because of the tightening of the skin. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Parani receive treatment. On March 5, surgeons at their care center will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him move his head easily again. Now, he needs help to fund this $832 procedure. Parani’s mother says, “Thank you very much for coming in and helping our son we had no means of affording his daily dressing he now needs a surgery which we can’t afford to please help.”

Leap is a mother of six with ten grandchildren from Cambodia. She is a farmer who likes to watch Thai dramas. One year ago, Leap developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, burning, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Leap learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On January 21, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope that my eye surgery is successful and I can see everything more clearly now. This way I can help my family at the farm field more easily, and I can easily to do any work and walking outside by myself."

Sareth is a housewife from Cambodia. She has two daughters, two sons, and ten grandchildren. She likes to watch Thai dramas on TV. Two years ago, Sareth developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, itchiness, tearing, and clouded lenses. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sareth learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for ten hours seeking treatment. On January 9, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope my vision is clear so I can cook and take care of my grandchildren."

Eden is an Eritrean refugee from Kenya. She has been living in Kenya since 2015. It took her two months to cross into Kenya through Sudan. Eden has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $816 to cover the cost of a mastectomy for Eden. The procedure is scheduled to take place on October 31. After treatment, Eden will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Eden says, “I want to be treated and be cancer-free. I am confident I will manage to fight off the condition."

Sokhon is a farmer from Cambodia. She has one daughter. She likes to watch Khmer dramas on TV. Four months ago, Sokhon developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sokhon learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for five hours seeking treatment. On October 15, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "When I can see better, I look forward to going back to the farm and driving."

Shama is a toddler from Haiti. She lives with her mother and father in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, and is their first child. She is getting ready to start preschool once her surgery is behind her. Shama has a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus. A hole exists between two major blood vessels near the heart. Blood leaks through this hole, leaving her short of breath and causing heart failure. On October 7, she will undergo cardiac surgery at St. Damien Hospital, our medical partner's care center. During surgery, surgeons will tie off the hole so that blood can no longer flow through it. Another organization, Gift of Life International, is contributing $5,000 to pay for surgery. Shama's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 requested by our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, covers cardiac exams and medications. Her mother says, "I am very excited that my daughter can have this surgery and become normal!"

Bethwel is a baby from Kenya. He is the youngest in a family of three children. Bethwel’s parents are subsistence farmers. Bethwel has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Bethwel has been experiencing an increasing head circumference that is disproportionate to the rest of his body. Without treatment, Bethwel will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $685 to cover the cost of surgery for Bethwel that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on October 2 and will drain the excess fluid from Bethwel's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Bethwel will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Bethwel’s mother says, “I long for the day I will see Bethwel normal just like his siblings."

Phorn is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has three sisters. She enjoys tending to her farm and spending time with her family. One year ago, Phorn developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her irritation, itchiness, tearing, and a clouded lens. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Phorn learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On August 6, doctors will perform phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope my vision is clear so I can continue my work at the farm."
