Bunrong is a nine-year-old boy from Cambodia who studies in the fourth grade. He has two sisters and enjoys reading books and watching television.
Due to a poorly administered vaccination he received when he was two years old, Bunrong now has a contracture in his left quadriceps muscle. A contracture is a shortening and hardening of tissue that causes a decreased range of motion in the affected area. Bunrong’s contracture has affected his gait and prohibits him from walking normally.
In order to seek treatment, Bunrong traveled three hours with his mother to reach Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). His family knew about CSC due to his mother’s prior ear treatment at the facility.
Doctors at CSC will perform a $425 quadricepsplasty procedure on Bunrong’s thigh, releasing the contracture and thereby restoring the full range of motion to his leg. With proper recovery after his operation, Bunrong will be able to walk without difficulty or pain.
Let’s help Bunrong obtain the surgery he needs to return home and continue his studies in primary school.
