Meet Buth, a 72-year-old woman from Cambodia. “Buth is married with one daughter and six grandchildren, and in her spare time she does housework,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).
“For three years, Buth has been partially blind because she has a cataract in each eye. She cannot see everything clearly and it is difficult for her to look after her grandchildren,” shares CSC.
Cataracts occur when the lens inside the eye becomes cloudy from age or trauma, and if left untreated, can lead to decreased vision and even blindness. Buth tells CSC, “I worry about my eyes not being able to see forever. I worry that I will never be able to do work or go anywhere.”
$225 will fund surgery to remove both of Buth’s cataracts. CSC reports, “After Buth’s cataract removal procedure, she will be able to see clearly again and regain her independence. Buth will be able to take care of her grandchildren and she will not be at risk of becoming blind.”
Buth shares, “I want to see everything clear so I can help my daughter to do some house work, like cooking food, and look after my grandchild at home.”
Her daughter adds, “I hope my mother can see everything clearly and not worry about becoming blind.”
