Meet Teas, a 66-year-old woman from Cambodia. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), tells us, “Teas is married with two daughters and eight grandchildren. In her spare time she likes to find firewood to support her family.”
Teas has been diagnosed with glaucoma. Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the eye’s optic nerve as a result of internal eye pressure. Glaucoma can lead to loss of vision and eventually blindness.
Because of her glaucoma, CSC explains, “Teas has been partially blind for four months”. During this time, “She has felt bored, sad and worried about her loss of vision.”
For $300, Teas will receive a surgery in which a piece of tissue in the inner corner of the eye will be removed to create an opening through which fluid can drain out of the eye, relieving pressure.
After this surgery, CSC says, “Teas will have improved vision and her pain will diminish.”
CSC adds, “Teas wants to be able to see everything clearly again and no longer be in pain. She hopes after treatment she will also be able to travel outside by herself.”
