Yoeng shared: “I hope after surgery I can see better and I feel happy. I want to join ceremonies at our village pagoda and take care of myself well.”
Yoeng is a widow from Kampong Cham. She has been a widow for many years, as her husband died during the Khmer Rouge regime. She has one son, one daughter, and four grandchildren. She was a rice farmer and has now passed her farm down to her daughter, with whom she now lives. At home, she likes listening to Buddhist prayers on the radio and cooking for her family.
About one year ago, Yoeng developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She often spends time alone at home because she is unable to go outside in the bright sun.
When Yoeng learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 1, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
