In February 2015, Yoeur was knocked over by a cow. After the accident, she received Khmer traditional medicine, but it was ineffective. Doctors at a local hospital told her to come to Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) because she could not bear her full weight, and it is painful for her to walk. She traveled two hours with her cousin to reach CSC for treatment.
Yoeur is a 65-year-old farmer who lives with her sister in Cambodia. During her free time, she enjoys watching the TV news.
An x-ray performed at CSC shows a left femoral neck fracture. The femoral neck is the top portion of the thigh bone, just below the ball-shaped end (head) that connects to the pelvis to form the hip joint. Fractures of the femoral neck frequently disrupt the blood supply to the femoral head and can lead to serious complications, including the breakdown and death of the bone tissue and failure of the fracture to heal.
To treat the femoral neck fracture, surgeons will perform a hemiarthroplasty — commonly known as joint (hip) replacement surgery — to remove the broken portion of Yoeur’s femur and replace it with a prosthetic joint that fits into the pelvis. After surgery, she will be able to walk properly.
$392 pays for surgery for Yoeur, as well as surgical and medical supplies and up to two days of meals for Yoeur and her caregiver.
Let’s help fund this life-changing surgery for Yoeur.
