Im is a 63-year-old rice farmer who is married with five sons, two daughters, and eleven grandchildren. In her free time, she likes to watch Khmer dramas on TV and do housework.
One year ago, Im developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, burning, itchiness, tearing, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside.
When Im learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On December 6, doctors performed a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, Im will be able to see clearly again. Now, she needs help to fund this $292 procedure.
“I hope that my eyes can see everything more clearly,” she says, “so that I can continue my work in my rice fields. I also want to plant some crops, like papaya and banana, around my home. I want to be able to go anywhere by myself.”
