Phal is a 62-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia, with one son, three daughters, and six grandchildren. She lives her husband who is also a rice farmer. Phal enjoys planting crops around her house, taking care of her grandchildren, and visiting the local pagoda.
Six months ago, Phal developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing, and irritation. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Phal learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours with her husband seeking treatment. On September 29th, doctors will perform small incision cataract surgery (SICS) and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Phal said, “I want to see well again so I can continue my work in the rice field and travel to the pagoda to listen to the monks pray and join in ceremonies.”
