Kuy is a 66-year-old rice farmer who lives with his wife in a rural village in Kampong Cham province. Kuy's wife, their two daughters, and their son-in-laws also work in the rice paddies. In his free time, Kuy likes spending time with family, farming vegetables in the village, and listening to monks pray on the radio. In September 2017, Kuy was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture in his left leg. He went to a nearby trauma hospital and doctors fixated hardware to heal his fracture. Now, the hardware is exposed and infected. It is difficult for him to walk and he is in chronic pain. For the last few months, he has barely been able to work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On February 14th, Kuy will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $304. This procedure will help him walk easily again. He shared, "After surgery I hope I can work again and support my family."

Thi Ha is a three-year-old boy from Burma. He lives with his mother and an older sister in a village in Karen State, Burma. His mother is a stay-at-home parent, and his sister goes to school. His father works in Bangkok, Thailand, as a cleaner in a market to support his family. When Thi Ha was born, his mother noticed a mass at the bottom of Thi Ha’s spine. As he grew older, the mass grew larger and started causing him pain, even if something soft touched it. Thi Ha and his mother visited our medical partner’s care center, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, where the doctors wanted Thi Ha to undergo an MRI to diagnose his condition and prepare an appropriate treatment plan for Thi Ha. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $968 to cover the cost of Thi Ha’s MRI and care, scheduled for February 13. His mother said, “Sometimes his friends do not care and ignore him because of his disease. Then Thi Ha feels embarrassed and upset with his friends.”

Kanha is an 8-year-old third grader. She lives in Kampong Speu province with her older brother and grandparents. Her mom works in a handbag factory a couple of hours away, and can spend time with her children on weekends. Her grandparents work as rice farmers, and have some extra income from their daughter's factory job. In her free time, Kanha likes reading and art. She hopes to do well in school so she can work at a bank or private company one day. When she was one year old, Kanha dropped some bread into an open cooking fire. Unfortunately, her right fingers were badly burned when she tried to retrieve the bread. She was treated at a local hospital to manage the burns and prevent infection. Since that time, burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around her fingers. When Kanha's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On December 5th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help her to use her hand easily again. Now, her family needs help to fund this $495 procedure. Kanha said: "I want to be able to hold my pens at school and use my hand better."
