“Roeung wants to be independent again and not rely on others to do the simplest of tasks,” our partners at the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) tell us. Meet Roeung, a 59-year-old man from Cambodia who has four children and two grandchildren.
Roeung has cataracts due to an injury from an accident that sent sparks into his eyes. He cannot see and he is fully dependent on his family to care for him. If treated, our partners at CSC say that his vision will be restored.
For only $150, Roeung will receive surgery that will allow him to see again. He says that he looks forward to “planting veggies in a garden near his house and raising cattle.”

Roeung received surgery to remove his cataract.
“Roeung is happy that he can now see well enough to go walking, or see things in front of him,” shares our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). “Before, he could do no such thing.”
CSC also noted that Roeung is a candidate for surgery on his right eye next week. Soon, he will have clear vision in both eyes for the first time since his accident.
