La is a 46-year-old fisherman who is married and has two sons and two daughters. He likes to listen to music on the radio and make fishing tools.
In January of 2016, La was in a fishing accident in Malaysia that caused a fracture in his left tibia. He underwent an external fixation procedure to heal his fracture. However, the wound grew infected, making it difficult for him to walk and causing him pain. Since then, La has had to use crutches to get around.
La traveled for three hours to seek treatment from our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). On December 29, surgeons at CSC removed and replaced the external fixation hardware. They also performed a debridement procedure to remove the infected tissue. After recovery, La should be able to walk easily again. CSC is requesting $411 to fund this treatment.

La underwent successful fracture repair.
Surgeons removed the external fixator and performed a debridement procedure to remove the damaged and infected tissue. They then applied a different external fixator to his left tibia to heal his fracture. Following his procedure, he was given pain medication, and he was instructed to keep his left leg elevated. He had one week of physiotherapy before going home. His wound has healed, and he does not experience pain. La is now able to walk better than before.
La says, “I look forward to going back home and being with my family.”
