Meet Tith, a 72-year-old father of seven boys and two daughters from Cambodia.
Tith has a mature cataract in his right eye, which makes it difficult for him to see and do anything on his own. Tith must depend on one of his four grandchildren to accompany him everywhere and is worried that without treatment, he’ll become a greater burden on his family and will eventually go blind.
Our medical partner in Cambodia, Children’s Surgical Centre tells us, “Tith enjoys spending time with his large family and listening to the monks pray. He used to enjoy watching the news on TV but is having difficulty seeing the screen.”
With $150 in funding, Tith will receive surgery to remove his cataract, replacing the blurred lens with an artificial one. This operation will not only allow Tith to see clearly, it will also restore his sense of independence.
Tith is looking forward to having surgery so that he can once again help his family tend to their farm, watch the nightly news on TV, and visit the monks’ pagoda on his own.
