Five-month-old Anderson is an only child who loves to play with his toy cars and listen to stories from his family. Anderson’s mother takes care of their home and works on a farm. His grandparents also help support their family by working in the fields.
Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK), shares that Anderson is malnourished. “He is suffering from malnutrition due to the fact that his mother cannot provide sufficient breast milk” shares WK. “He has had diarrhea for the past eight days and his mother worries that without assistance, his illness will worsen and he will continue to lose weight.”
“Anderson is at risk of dehydration and starvation,” WK adds. “Without intervention he will not consume sufficient calories to survive his first months of life and will suffer from long term effects, including weak immune system and an inability to develop fully both physically and mentally.”
$1,220 will fund treatment for Anderson’s malnutrition and engage his mother in an educational program to keep him healthy in the future. WK adds, “Anderson’s immune system will strengthen and he will grow up to be a healthy energetic baby.”
His mother says, “I am so grateful for the support you have offered me. Without you there is no way my baby would be able to get ahead in life.”

Anderson received treatment for acute malnutrition.
Anderson began nutritional therapy and is being closely monitored by doctors from our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK). “Anderson is now seven months old and is a visibly happy child. He laughs often and his energy has increased,” WK says. “Treatment has provided his family with life-saving formula, and as a result Anderson has gained weight and is growing well.”
Although Anderson’s mother was experiencing lactation failure, she is now enrolled in a course on nutrition–giving her the knowledge and confidence to support Anderson’s nutritional needs.
WK says, “Anderson’s mother is now introducing solid food into his diet. [She] reports that she can see the difference in her son’s health and happiness, even after just 2 months of treatment.”
“We are looking forward to monitoring Anderson’s progress in the coming months and continuing to see large increases in weight and height,” WK shares.
Anderson’s mother says, “We are so happy, because our child is getting better and growing well. I was so worried about him, because I did not have enough milk to feed him, but now he is starting to eat other things and every day I feel as though he is getting larger. Thank you.”
