San is a 71-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. After harvest time she makes Khmer cake to sell to the people in her village. San has four daughters and one son. She lives with her husband and one daughter andher other children live in another village. She also likes to listen to monks pray on the radio every week.
Three years ago, San developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When San learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for over three hours seeking treatment. On May 18th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope that I can see more clearly, because I cannot do much by myself right now. I want to do farming and making Khmer cakes again. Especially, I hope that after surgery I can look after myself at home again,” San said.
