Phon is a retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She is a 70-year-old widow who lives with her son and his family. Phon’s son works as a rice farmer. She has four grandchildren that keep her busy. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at the pagoda and listening to Buddhist radio.
About one year ago, Phon developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Phon learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On May 6th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Phon’s family is able to contribute $100 but needs your help to raise $153 more to fund this procedure.
Phon shared, “I hope I can see clearly so I can do more to help my daughter-in-law around the house and walk my grandchildren to school.”
