Vorn is a loving 71-year-old grandmother who needs cataract surgery. She has three sons, three daughters, and 11 grandchildren. Her husband unfortunately passed away, so she lives with her third daughter, who is a garment worker. Vorn spends much of her time cooking for her family, caring for her grandchildren, and listening to monks pray on the radio.
One year ago, Vorn developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her to experience eye tearing and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Vorn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 7th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Vorn shares, “After surgery, I hope my eye can see everything clearly so I can take care of myself, go for the ceremonies at the pagoda, and help to watch my grandchildren.”

Vorn underwent cataract surgery so she can see clearly and care for her grandchildren.
For the past year, Vorn was unable to go outside by herself because her vision had deteriorated. This troubled Vorn as she could not help her daughter or clean the house well. After surgery at Children’s Surgical Centre, Vorn returned to her province, and her sight was already improved. She will rest for a few days, and apply eye drops to aid in healing and decrease the risk of infection. The cataract surgery will improve her life because she will feel more useful to her family and can be more independent. Vorn looks forward to visiting her children and her neighbors again.
Vorn shared, “I am so thrilled I can see well again. I can help my family by walking the children to school and doing housework. Thank you to the surgeons and the people who helped me to have this surgery so I can see well again. It makes me happy that I feel well again.”
