Sam Ath is a 39-year-old farmer who is married with one son and one daughter. He likes to watch boxing on TV, cut grass for his cows, and relax at home in his free time.
Sam Ath has been experiencing hip pain on both sides for the past three years. He went to a private clinic, where doctors diagnosed him with tuberculosis (TB) of the hip and he was given TB medication as treatment.
He also took pain medication from the pharmacy, but his symptoms did not improve. Sam Ath has been unable to walk without the support of crutches for the past two months, and he experiences pain. He has now come to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), to help alleviate his pain.
Surgeons at CSC will perform a total hip replacement on Sam Ath’s left side on July 3. After the surgery, he may need to return to CSC for the same procedure on the right side.
Sam Ath’s procedure will cost $1,025. He cannot afford this procedure and is appealing to Watsi for financial assistance.
