Kheath is a 70-year-old woman from Cambodia who enjoys visiting the mosque in her free time. She has a large family: four sons, one daughter, and ten grandkids.
For the past year, Kheath has been having problems in both of her eyes. She experiences blurred vision and irritation, and it is painful for her to look at light. As a result, she can’t go anywhere by herself, which makes her feel as though she is no longer independent.
Kheath’s discomfort eventually became so serious that she traveled five hours with her daughter to reach the Children’s Surgical Centre. There, she was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. This means that each of her lenses has become clouded. If left untreated, Kheath’s cataracts could eventually cause her to become completely blind.
But there is a way to help Kheath avoid this unfortunate outcome. For $292, we can provide her with an operation that will remove both of her clouded lenses and replace them with fully functioning, artificial lenses. This funding will also pay for Kheath’s post-operative care in the hospital.
After her surgery, Kheath will be able to see the world clearly again—and to move about independently in it.

Kheath successfully received restorative-vision surgery.
Kheath’s eye cataract was successfully removed from her left eye and clear vision has been restored. Following the operation, she was given eye drops to reduce inflammation and fight infection. Kheath went home after the first surgery and has yet to return to have the same operation completed in the other eye. Because returning to the clinic requires taking a day off from work and usually a family escort, she may have had trouble finding a day to come back. Also, because she left with clear vision in one eye, her problems with blurred vision are less of a burden making the second surgery a less immediate priority than the first. The second surgery will be free whenever Kheath returns.
“I feel very happy that I can see everything clearly so that I can help my daughter do some housework and take care of my grandchildren,” shares Kheath. “I can easily go to the mosque or anywhere else outside by myself again.”
