One-year-old Purnima developed an abscess on her face about a week ago. Not only has the infection been extremely painful, but it has instigated a fever as well. Purnima’s wound produces some discharge, and she has been crying.
Her mother attempted to treat her with herbal medicine at home, but this did not improve her condition. Purnima has difficulty moving her head and is experiencing considerable swelling in the infected area. In hopes of finding successful treatment for her daughter, Purnima’s mother walked with her daughter to the hospital.
Purnima lives with her parents in Nepal, and is an only child. Her parents run general shops to sustain the family. They cannot afford the treatment their daughter needs to treat her infection.
For $157, doctors will perform an incision and drainage procedure on Purnima’s abscess. After her treatment, and with a regular changing of hygienic dressings on the wound, Purnima’s infection will be healed and her fever will dissipate.
“I will be happy to see her well again,” says Purnima’s mother.
