Sophy is a 30-year-old woman from Cambodia who works for a call center. She is married and has one son.
When she was 10 years old, Sophy developed an ear infection in her left ear that developed to ultimately perforate her eardrum on her left side. She now experiences recurrent ear discharge, hearing loss, and tinnitus. It is difficult for her to hear at her workplace, and Sophy worries about future damage to her hearing.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund a myringoplasty for Sophy, which is scheduled to take place on July 18. Surgeons will repair the perforation of Sophy’s eardrum, and, once the treatment is completed, her hearing will hopefully improve over time.

Sophy underwent ear repair treatment.
Sophy’s treatment for her left ear went well. Following the procedure, she was given antibiotic ear drops to take for two weeks. Her sutures were removed one week later. Sophy feels mild pain on the wound and mild tinnitus, but she is recovering nicely.
Sophy’s sister says, “I am very happy that my sister had the operation so that she will have good hearing.”
