Chheng An is a 38-year-old meat and vegetable seller from Cambodia. She is married with two school-aged daughters. Her husband works as a rice farmer in the rainy season and in the dry season he works in construction. She enjoys taking her children out to eat noodles.
At the beginning of June 2020, Chheng An was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a right tibia closed fracture. First, she sought treatment from a Khmer traditional healer but the leg did not improve and a neighbor told her to come to Children Surgical Centre. She has to walk with crutches and her leg is swollen, making it difficult for her to work.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On July 3rd, Chheng An will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will repair the fracture, reduce her pain, and allow her to walk easily again.
Her husband shared, “I am worried about her leg needing an operation because we have to take time off work to come here. We can not be away from our children for so long and away from our work. We lose income by traveling six hours to reach help. I hope the surgery and recovery go well so we can return home soon and be with our children.”
