Samorn is a 75-year-old grilled banana seller from Cambodia. She has one daughter and three grandchildren. Samorn shared with us that her husband died in a landmine explosion 30 years ago. Now, she enjoys watching Khmer and Indian movies on TV in her free time.
Six years ago, Samorn developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing, irritation, cloudy lens, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Samorn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled with her daughter by tuk tuk seeking treatment. On September 8th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Samorn said, “I hope after surgery I can see everything clearer so I can get around easily, help my daughter do some work at home, and take care of my grandchildren.”
Samorn’s daughter said, “I hope my mom can see everything clearly after surgery so I don’t worry anymore about her becoming blind.”
