Chhorn is a retired rice farmer. He and his wife live in Prey Veng province, and their three daughters, four sons, and 13 grandchildren live nearby and support their living. As a result of Chhorn’s retirement from farming, he stays home to help his wife around the house, spends time with his younger grandchildren, and visits the local pagoda for meditation.
Three years ago, Chhorn developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision and photophobia. He has a hard time recognizing his grandchildren and is distressed that he cannot go out in the bright sunlight.
When Chhorn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On January 3rd, doctors will perform small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Chhorn said: “I hope after surgery I can easily go out. I want to visit the pagoda again on my own and not be afraid I will fall.”
