Meet Aakarti, a two year-old girl from Nepal. “Aakarti lives with her parents. Her dad is a driver and her mom tends to the farm to make a living,” shares our medical partner, Possible.
“Aakarti fell off the porch of her house and fractured her right femur, and she cries often because of the pain of her swollen leg,” Possible adds.
In the area of Nepal where Possible works, getting proper care for patients with fractures before they are able to reach a hospital is difficult, as there is a lack of sufficient personnel or equipment for providing proper first aid. Some patients who have to travel longer distances for care end up going to the closer governmental health facilities where they might get simple first aid in the form of splints and a sling made from roller bandages.
For $224, we can fund a comprehensive treatment that will heal Aakarti’s fracture. Possible reports, “The treatment will ensure that Aakarti’s bones are aligned correctly, and a plaster cast will allow the fracture to heal properly. Within a month’s time, she will be able to crawl on all fours and do the activities she enjoyed doing before.”
“My daughter has been hungry since morning because she can’t eat before the treatment. I really want the treatment to be over so that she can have milk at least,” says Aakarti’s mother.
