Vireak is an eight-year-old boy from Cambodia. He is in the first grade and likes going to school. He has one sister and one brother. In his free time, Vireak enjoys watching action movies on TV, drawing pictures of temples, and going for walks with children in his neighborhood.
When Vireak was two years old, he received poorly administered injections in both of his legs. These injections caused him to develop quadriceps fibrosis, a contracture of the thigh that limits his ability to move. In May, Vireak received a quadricepsplasty on his right leg, correcting the condition. He now requires the same operation on his left leg.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $413 to fund Vireak’s surgery. He is scheduled for a left-leg quadricepsplasty on August 2. After his operation, Vireak will be able to walk easily once again.
