Lydia finished high school last year and has dreams of attending university, but she started experiencing some pain in her abdomen last December. She experienced the pain for one month before going to the hospital for an examination. After an abdomen CT scan, Lydia was diagnosed with Cystic liver disease. She was booked for surgery after the family raised enough money through fundraising. During the surgery, Lydia experienced complications when anesthesia was being administered and the surgery had to be cancelled. She was admitted to the ICU for a few days, recovered, and was discharged, but all the money her family raised was used to pay the hospital bill, and the family had to get a loan to clear the bill. While at home, Lydia recovered well, and during the last clinic review, she was finally ready for liver surgery. Their family has completely exhausted their funds and is appealing for any financial help to facilitate their daughter's treatment, hoping that after her complete healing, she can pursue her dreams. Lydia shared, “I really want to be helpful at home and maybe get a job to help my family but I can’t. This condition is very painful. I hope I will be treated soon enough and recover well.”

Alex is a 50-year-old father from Uganda. He and his wife have 3 children, all of whom are married and self-employed. His wife engages in small-scale farming, primarily producing food for the family's consumption with a small surplus for sale, and Alex manages a small retail shop to support his livelihood and the entire family. For 5 years, Alex has had reducible right inguinal (groin area) hernia and right inguinal swelling. He states that it comes and goes over time and hinders his ability to walk. This has had a negative impact on his work performance in his business and has consequently resulted in a lower quality of life. If left untreated, these symptoms could persist and eventually lead to strangulation. Alex underwent a surgical procedure on the left side of his inguinal region six years ago. Unfortunately, he has now developed a similar condition on the right side. Fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. Alex is scheduled to undergo a hernia repair surgery at AMH's care center on August 8th. AMH is requesting $230 to fund the surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Alex says, “I cannot afford this surgery but if I get your support, I will have a restored and improved health thus able to continue with my business for a living.”

Victoria is a 3-month-old baby from Bolivia. She lives with her mother in a neighborhood in La Paz. Her mother makes and sells handcrafted hats for a living. Victoria was born with a cardiac condition called Total anomalous pulmonary vein return. With this condition, the major blood vessels connect to Victoria's heart at abnormal locations, making it difficult for blood to flow through her lungs and leaving her weak and short of breath. Fortunately, our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, can help Victoria receive the treatment she needs. On July 12th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which the doctors will disconnect the blood vessels and reattach them at the anatomically correct locations. Our medical partner is requesting $1,500 to fund VIctoria's surgery costs. Victoria's mother said, "I am very hopeful that my daughter will be able to breathe normally and gain weight after this surgery!"
