Kanika, who is 16 months old, lives with her mother and maternal grandparents in Kampong Speu province in Cambodia. Kanika’s mother works at a food cart, while her grandmother is employed at a food factory, and her grandfather is a security guard.
When Kanika was about a year old and began to walk, the family noticed that she had a limp. They brought her in for a medical consultation, and she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. This is a condition where the “ball and socket” joint of the hip does not properly form in babies and young children. Surgical intervention is needed to correct this issue.
On October 23rd, Kanika will undergo a reduction and casting procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to relieve her pain and improve her mobility. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is seeking $485 to fund Kanika’s procedure, hospital stay, and any necessary tests and supplies.
Kanika’s mom shared: “I hope my baby can be happy and healthy and walk more easily.”
